We have a DS 5000 that fails in front every now and then. It is starting to happen more often. A car will pull in and it will spit on the car. The gantry never moves and then it tells the car to exit. This all takes about two seconds. The next car that comes in, the gantry starts moving forward and then fails in the front before it goes all the way down. Then we have to reset it.

When reset it may wash 10-40 cars perfectly then it fails again. Frustrating!

We have checked all sensors on the gantry, taken solenoid on hydraulic power pack apart, and taken pistons out of hydrolic power pack.

Can anyone help?

Thanks!

I know I've witnessed that problem before, but it's been so long since I've worked on one I can't remember what it was. It does sound like an intermittent solenoid issue on the hydraulic unit, but I wouldn't think the machine would stay in service for the next car. Have you been around when the first issue (machine never moves) happens? Is there any message displayed?

Another thought might be the thermal overload on the hydraulic tripping occasionally. Make sure it's set to manual reset so if it is tripping you'll find it tripped next time.

Yes, I have had the same problem on my Super 5, but such a long time ago, it is hard to remember. However, I seem to remember that it was a treadle problem - I know I'll get the name of the part wrong, but believe it was the mercury switch. Yes, almost certain now that it was the mercury switch. We adjusted it and it worked for a long, long time. Once it started again, we replaced it and have had no problems since.

Our problem was that there was trash on one of the valves from the hydraulic block on the gantry. Once we cleaned the valves off it has worked great ever since. We went ahead and changed the filter on the hydraulic unit too.

Skyking, Check for trash in your lines and primarily at the brake block in the gantry. Opening the cartridges and blowing fluid out a lot of times will release the trash that is blocking it from reversing. If you have any other questions, give me a call. 636-677-3442,,, Bill/D&S Tech Support.

Thanks for the quick responses! Will check out and get back with a reply. It has happened twice in the last two weeks, but figured it will only get worse.

Make sure none of your oscillating hoses are broken. The foam presoak running out of the gantry can break the photo eyes and the machine perceives it as an overlength vehicle.

DS 5000 error message

I also have problems with error message of (limits seen to often). I just live with it, but it will not wash F250 or F350 short box fords and super cab long box of any thing. It shuts down in the back every time. Can't seem to talk to anyone that knows any more than I do. Help if you can

It seems like it would shut down on those vehicles simply because they're too long. That's not a problem with the machine. If it's SUPPOSED to wash them, the treadle plate may be too far back.

DS 500 plate

Thanks, that was my next step to move the plate forward about 6 inches. I'll give it a try. At this point I'll try anything.

Don't move it just because you think it might be the issue. You should determine if that's the problem first. If it's not, you might get overlength shut-downs in the front.

It's not unusual for a long truck with a hitch ball to trigger a rear overlength shut-down.

Do you have the extended rails? That's why I said IF it's supposed to wash them.

Not sure if we have the extended rails, but our d&s 5000 washes our 2002 gmc crew cab, 6 foot bed with a hitch in the back without a problem.

I checked all suggestions and haven't had a problem since I posted. No leaks from ganty hoses and no trash from the block. I wonder if a few people with a brush guard on the front of a truck might have tripped the eyes?

My DS 5000 is doing this also....gantry stopping at front ending wash...started this morning. I believe I had similar problems in the past and it was a defective entrance treadle?? I cant remember but I'm going to start looking into it. What the deal with the garbage in the line you guys are talking about? I would think the filter would get that.

OK here's an update: I reset my diagnosis screen and I got the system to fail. After going threw the Diagnosis I found the " count Prox/Hyd Fail " had 1 failed attempt. Basically if you read your manual you will see it has something to do with the proxy switch (small white disc inside the gantry) or the signal from the proxy (umbilical cord) so we cleaned of the proxy disc/switch inside the gantry....so far its working but we only washed two cars so far....

Well with a prox it's change out the prox first with a new one and if it still fails same way I'd look at the cable.

I've never had any luck cleaning a prox.

Hi Bill, I have a question for you that may have you stumped! This has been brought up a couple times and I have never gotten an answer. I have two DS 5000's (5 years old) the old pumps and rinse tank located in the mechanical room re-used, my problem is I cannot change the "long" and the "short" on the programmer as you know this controls the time the gantry sits on the springs before rising up. I'm always stuck on the "long" I cannot change it...even when I program it in and the programmer says its in the "short" the gantry sits for the 3-4 seconds. I would really like to adjust it for the short selection in the winter when we have long lines to speed up the wash and save on soap.
Thank you for any input!
