Another bogus insurance claim

customer states detailing work ruined both heated seats and steering wheel in a jeep. internet is full of stories about jeeps with heated seat / steering wheel issues. chrysler issued a tsb on this issue. this is a mfg issue and not a problem from detailing. i'm curious to see 'proof' . turned over to my insurance. hope they don't just pay out without a fight.

I wouldn’t respond until a judge ordered me to . Even demand letters from attorneys I throw right out.
Exactly. I had a customer threaten me that my touchless machine dented their dually and they're going to sue me. Reviewed footage and they ran into bollard posts by my pay station just trying to scam. They asked for my insurance and I told them to F off. Three demand letters later from their attorney I still won't respond. Im going to make them spend as much money as they can on an attorney for every letter they write until a judge orders me to respond. Thats when I'll give up my video evidence and also make them pay for my attorney.

Hope they don't either. Roughly 20 years ago, I had a lady fall right outside one of my self serve bays and break a hip. I had very clear video of the towing company, who had just 5 minutes prior washed antifreeze and oil off the back of a rollback into the parking lot where the lady fell. Insurance settled out of court with the lady and then cancelled my policy.

Love that you are sitting on the video footage of them hitting the bollards.

Insuarance companies can be notorious for cutting checks to make small prob;lems go away, valid or not. Then we get hammered with increased premiums!

Yeah, I’d definitely push back on that too — especially with a TSB already out there. It’s wild how quick some customers are to pin stuff on detailing when the underlying issue is already a known gremlin.
I’ve seen enough Chrysler/Jeep complaints to know those seat and wheel heaters can go out on their own even without any shop work being done. Insurance might try to play it safe and settle, but if you’ve got documentation of the TSB and no electrical tampering from your side, that’s worth standing your ground.
Out of curiosity — did they claim it stopped working immediately after the detail? Or was it like “a few days later”? That timing can make or break it sometimes.
