The funny thing about owning a self serve is

The funny thing about owning a self serve car wash is that it is NEVER dull!! :) I've owned my car wash for 17 years now, and I think public behavior is getting more outrageous - especially with the homeless! I'm glad that I have cameras and live close-by. Recently, one of my wash bays was...

    How are you all doing?

Here in CA, the Govenor just ordered that everyone "shelter in place" unless they have an essential business. I have a 5-bay self-service car wash, which I don't consider essential. I have 16 cameras and am pleasantly surprised that my car wash is staying pretty busy. People ask me how I can...

Had an idea.... What do you think

I like washnshine's idea about vending mini cans of Lysol. Here in CA, I would be hesitant to substitute chemicals in the Spray Fragrance machine, for liability purposes or getting sued for misleading claims. I can just imagine the customer complaints... now my car smells like bleach, the...

    Other profit centers

The original owner contracted with a billboard company to install a GIANT 2-sided billboard over the self-service car wash, 37 years ago. The 36" metal pipe base runs through the pump room and generates an extra $1500 / month! It makes for great visibility! :) The contract is up next year...

Problem with microfiber towels getting stuck inside Laurel Vending - single column

That might be true at most car washes, but not mine. On average I sell 133 towels a month, and OCCASIONALLY pick up a clear cellophane wrapper off the ground. The packaged towels look better and my customers know they're clean and new! They vend for $2 each. When I'm at my car wash I'm so...

Problem with microfiber towels getting stuck inside Laurel Vending - single column

Very nice, I LOVE all the colors! I looked into Laurel Vending's 19-shelf magazine assembly, but it only allows for more height (between towels). The width of the shelf is still the same, as it uses the SAME Laurel Vending One Column box.

Problem with microfiber towels getting stuck inside Laurel Vending - single column

Great question! Yes, I have considered a glass front vendor, but have found some drawbacks for my situation: - Its all about location! The front of my car wash gets the most exposure, and I don't have a large area in the front for a glass front vendor. Instead I have 5 Laurel Vending (one...

Problem with microfiber towels getting stuck inside Laurel Vending - single column

Are you using the Armor All Protectant Sponge Packs or other packet? When I bought my car wash 16 years ago, the Protectant Sponges came in the larger packages, and we had to fold them in half, like you described. They finally responded to the collective complaints (from other CW owners) and...

Problem with microfiber towels getting stuck inside Laurel Vending - single column

For now, I'm just taping the Big Boss towels in half (long-ways), until I get through the last 2 boxes, and then I'll purchase the 12"x16" Quick Dry towels (see updated post on 3/26/19).

Problem with microfiber towels getting stuck inside Laurel Vending - single column

UPDATE! This morning, I received a box in the mail from QuickDry, with their 12"x16" microfiber towels (Kleen-Rite Part # VS182). These are the SAME size towels as BIG BOSS (Kleen-Rite Part # VSKMF100), but in smaller packaging!! See photo for comparison.... The cellophane package on...

Problem with microfiber towels getting stuck inside Laurel Vending - single column

I appreciate your reply! The towels are already pretty thick, and folding them in half wouldn't fit between the shelves.

Problem with microfiber towels getting stuck inside Laurel Vending - single column

Thanks for your reply! I may have to resort to that. I'm hoping for a packaged solution as my nephew stocks my vending machines, and I know he's NOT going to want to fold towels! :O

Problem with microfiber towels getting stuck inside Laurel Vending - single column

I appreciate your reply! Vending box is only 4 years, and door is still shiny and clean on the inside. The top of the package does have extra plastic that could be trimmed off, but the length isn't causing any problems. The problem is when the door closes, the packaging is wedged between the...

    Foam brush heads

I use the ROUND hog's hair brush from Universal and replace the whole thing. At my car wash, customers prefer the ROUND over the RECTANGLE, as it gets into car wheel wells easier. I worked with National Pride to create custom signs, to educate my customers that I provide "hogs-hair bristle...

Problem with microfiber towels getting stuck inside Laurel Vending - single column

For the past 4 years, since I started selling Microfiber towels in my new Laurel Vending single column machine, they've been getting stuck on the shelf and NOT falling! I vend Kleen-Rite's Big Boss towels (VSKMF100). The towels are 12" x 16". The cellophane packaging measures 4.75" wide...

    Vacuum door gaskets

In the 16 years I've had my car wash, I've replaced a lot of insulation foam tape on my vacuums. I used to use a heat gun, Goof Off, scraper and steel wool, but found this process to be very smelly (foam tape heats up and smokes) and time consuming. I FOUND A MUCH FASTER & EFFECTIVE METHOD...

    Sad news from Kleen Rite

So very sad to hear! My heart goes out to his personal family, and KR family. I really appreciated Tom's Videos!! Watching his videos were very helpful, taught me a lot about maintenance and helped me feel more confident. He WAS the face of Kleen-Rite. He reminded me of my father, and I...

    Who posts Time for $?

I clearly post prices and times on all my wash bays ($2 for 3.5 minutes), vacuums ($1 for 2.5 minutes). Customers still ask me, but they appreciate it that the signage is there. No hidden surprises and no complaints.
