That's why I use them. I've been working on a lot of the same washes for 30 years. In another 20 I don't want to still be messing with rusted non-working swivels.
Anti seize is definitely not a bad idea. They usually come apart fine if they're in the room. If they're at the boom in the bay, I usually have to cut the hose and replace the crimp fitting. I still use them, but only use stainless ones.
Rex is the idiot who built and installed his equipment. It was intended to be rude. I still deal with his stupidity, just not every day like I used to.
It's not the amperage. The knob is just there as a convenient way to stop the compressor. It is in no way electrically relevant. Something is just making the knob turn, either vibration or the switch itself opening. I've seen before on a compressor where when it's running the knob is loose...
In my experience, any moisture will get trapped in the tape and will cause it to rust worse than without tape, and it just makes it more trouble to take apart and tighten because you can't spin the fitting with your fingers.
Reverse osmosis.
If this is for home use, you might want to look on DIY car washing forums. This one is mainly for professional car wash owners/operators. The equipment we use costs tens of thousands of dollars.
Remove the cover and break the knob off. It's probably throwing itself over. The knob just stops the switch from closing, removing it won't affect anything.
