City just told me I can't use salt in my softener. Options?

I think I would have to find out the "Why's"? What is the current system hurting? Does the new ruling/mandate also affect domestic softeners too or just commercial? Are they offering an alternative and and/or incentive to switch? How can the reject water from a softener be any worse than raw...

Another tankless water heater replacing boiler thread

My neighbor is building a "Barndominium" on the property right behind my house. He installed floor heat in the slab and put in one of those Navien Combi units for the floor heat and domestic HW...It uses a small pump inside the heater that supplies return glycol to the heater, the same thing as...

Another tankless water heater replacing boiler thread

FWIW....My floor heat circuit is energized at 32° from the secondary output on the weepmizer. It powers a 30a relay that supplies power to (1) taco 013 zone pump and (2) taco 013's that supplies feed to the heater. I also use simple light switches in line to both pump circuits so I can manually...

Another tankless water heater replacing boiler thread

Hmmmm, might be pushing it to only go with (1) 199K BTU tankless? (2) should do it with ease! Is there any price difference between a 180K and 199K? I just looked and the Takagi I used is a little over $1200 from SupplyHouse.com BTW, I don't have heated aprons. I just use salt and it seems to...

    Foam Brush Hoses

I tired coiled hoses too and didn't like them for the reasons listed above. Plus I could not keep them from freezing in the winter with my washer fluid blowdown system. Because of the length of the hose (about 50ft coiled) the chemical would flash freeze before it could get to the gun! Switching...

    Foam Brush Hoses

I use 3/8" GoodYear air hose for Fb and TF/PS foam guns...The hose is light and last for many years, even in direct sunlight in the outside truck bay. Can't remember when the last time I changed one out. I just use standard hose barbs and brass ferrules to crimp the hose on the barb. I also use...

Another tankless water heater replacing boiler thread

Sorry it took me so long to respond...I wanted to get you an accurate measurement. I suffer from CRS and Kept forgetting to take my 100ft tape with me! I heat 4 bays, total of 1860sq ft. One bay is an outside bay, no roof. The other three bays do not have doors, so completely open to the...

Another tankless water heater replacing boiler thread

I have seen the price increase!! If my HTP ever goes belly up (unrepairable) I won't be replacing it. If the tank was still good, I'd plumb in a demand heater and call it a day! I wouldn't think it would be that hard to plumb in a pump. For my Takagi 199k for floor heat, I have 2 Taco 013's in...

    High Pressure Floats

How many gallons is your float tank? Did you used to have an automatic bay? Like others have said, 2" is way overkill. At 3gpm per bay, you only need about 20gpm. A 1" will flow about 40gpm.

First Winter - Antifreeze vs. Weep

Your system is pretty complex, plus you still have the cost of methanol soaps. Did you consider using washerfluid and air to blow out the lines instead? I would think it would be a lot cheaper and more effective. I stay open till about 5 below zero with no doors. No problems with freeze ups. If...

It’s time to start thinking about Freeze Protection

Hmmm....I'm not certain where that came from? I'm using 1/4" poly for my Washer Fluid lines. However, I am using 3/8" for air only because I tied the air lines to my TF hoses inside the ER and they are 3/8"... Since it was such a short run and I didn't have 1/4 to 3/8 Tee's, I used 3/8 poly...

First Winter - Antifreeze vs. Weep

So many ways to skin this cat! Weeping FB and TF/PS hoses would have been too costly for me. Something to consider when weeping these services. My water/sewage cost is approaching $20 per thousand gallons. On my HP guns alone for a 4 bay at temps around 15, I can use 800-1000 gallons a day...

It’s time to start thinking about Freeze Protection

Did I mention CantBreak80 has taken it to an "Entirely Different Level"! First photo below is my origianl system that only winterized the TF/PS foam guns. This was installed January 2013! By the following winter, I expanded/redesigned the system to include FB....Even though our systems look...

It’s time to start thinking about Freeze Protection

Slash, I won't take all the credit, the system I designed and installed was derived mostly from the work of CantBreak80. We worked on the program for quite awhile before coming up with an unflawed working program/solution. CantBreak80 has since then taken the program to an entirely different...

tire and engine cleaner leaking out the gun in my SS bays

Good advise OurTown! Most people don't know this is a Huge Requirement when it comes to tying multiple transformers together. Here is a photo of my TF and PS winterizing Controller. I installed the yellow Idec Cube relays just to make sure I didn't have any issues since I was powering my PLC's...

    What was your worst customer?

Yes, luckily it was latex! It took my 4400 psi pressure washer to get it all cleaned up. Not something you would let someone like that try to clean up!

    What was your worst customer?

Twice in one month and the only time we've had paint like this since we've bought the wash 12+ years ago....Common sense has gone out the window!
