Concern to Car Washes CLA Laundromat Forum Thread?

I loose maybe 2 or 3 charge backs a year on credit cards. Not worth fighting it at all. People spend much more when using a credit card in a SS bay vs. using cash. Not accepting CC in a bay to me seems like driving a horse and buggy instead of car.

    Car wash Water bill

If your meter is in gallon like Randy said fill a bucket or 55 gallon drum and see if the 2 numbers are close. I once built a wash and put a brand new city supplied meter in. My water bill was 3X at the new wash eventhough it was doing the same amount as another wash I had. I made them come out...

Is a recess coming? Is it time to get panicky?

For SS operators our biggest age demographic of users is the 18 to 35 group. I was reading in the Wall Street Journal that Dutch Brothers coffee is looking for a downturn in spending of this age group because the impact of the economy is far greater to this group that it is to older americans...

    Hog King Foam Brush

I have had the opposite experience with the Hog Kings. No problems with them at all and they were much denser the the Eries when they first came out. Mine have outlasted my Erie brushes. They may have changed them since I first got mine.

My equipment was running fine but several years ago I up graded all the coin boxes to accept credit cards and bills. When I put the new coin boxes in everyone thought I had put in all new equipment.

I have a dedicated work vehicle and and dedicated personal use vehicle. You can write the mileage off on a combo vehicle as mentioned. For a fully dedicated work vehicle you can write it off directly.

Section 179 lets you take accelerated depreciation on equipment in the year it was put into service. Last time I checked it was limited to up to a 125K per year write off. A vehicle with a GVW of over 6800 lbs can be written completely off. You shoule get with a good CPA, they won't cost you...

    Nashville

I still think that the boot camp that the WCA started years ago was the best format. Several companies with short presentations that individuals could choose from and attend in rotating 15 to 30 minute sessions. We always had positive feedback when we hosted them.

Express Wash Impact On Existing IBA/SS

IN the last 10 years I went from having 2 tunnels in my town to 9 with another being built right now. I did take a hit on automatic washes over 50% but my SS bays have held out strong so everything is good. It is funny to see now the first express washes that were built and took off are now...

    Bankruptcy

I would be sure to find a average cost of business per month. Add up all expenses and hedge a bit on the high side. Then look to see how much you will have to do daily to satisfy the debt. Not much resale value in any used equipment.

Poll: I plan on taking a few days off this summer to relax.

I still have a land line and have calls forwarded to my cell phone. When I leave I forward all calls to my son who also works in the business. My daughter is getting married this year and it will be a 2 to 3 day event. This will be the first time in 28 years that my washes will be closed. I...

    Petit automatic

I have gone through a brand new petit installed in Mesquite, Nv a few times. He put it in to compete with a new Terrible Herbst tunnel going in the same Walmart complex. My wife commented on the light color show. I think similar can be achieved with a programmable LED available from TSS lights...

I have never had that problem on my Ryko signature series. I would look at the timer programming for your problem. They came with different timers. I have dixmore and timemaster in my system.

The biggest risk I have taken as a self serve owner….

Building my first wash back in 1993. I had 2 toddlers a wife and a $400,000 mortgage on the car wash and had put everything I had to get it. It had to be profitable or else.

    Zep Pricing

I try to always buy direct from chemical companies. The middle men play games and will eventually raise prices more than just keeping pace on price raises. I buy direct from Zep and the products you mentioned have gone up in the last year but not at the amount you have stated.

Anyone have the customer apply product before going in to IBA?

I have used self prep stations for all my locations for over 25 years. Good for windows and tires and wheels and my signs say not to use on paint just to cover me. 30 gallon converted chemical barrels with small wheel wizard brushes.
