"FULL SERVICE" DETAILING - What Does It Mean?

RPH That's the exact scenario I think about when people tell me I need another location. I'd rather maximize one spot (one property tax bill, elec./gas bill, insurace bill) and make it the best it can be.

    Dino Pellegreene at Warsaw

I did not know him but am very sorry to hear that and I will pray for his family. That is a bitch; so young and with a wife and young children. Very sad.

    Shadowing and tire shine.

I thought it would look good on certain tires and yes it would save dressing. I use solvent based exterior dressing on tires. The tires I tried this way I liked the look, personally.

Help: Key things to know when purchasing an existing Self Serve?

What we are saying is that the SS carwash business is alot of work. From the outside it looks like you drop by every so often, pick up some money and leave. In reality it is largely janitorial work coupled with mechanical, plumbing, wiring, landscaping, building maintenance, customer service...

    Shadowing and tire shine.

I wonder how Pledge would work out expense-wise. I think I could stretch the tire dressing further than the same amount of Pledge. I found a knock off Pledge at Rite Aid for $1 per aerosol can.

    Shadowing and tire shine.

I would hand apply dressing to side wall but not rub it in hard so that is goes over top of grooves in sidewall tread or lettering that is stamped in sidewall.

    Shadowing and tire shine.

My detail shoppe used to apply tire shine by (GASP) spraying it on tires. Since we changed to hand-applied by applicator pad I have saved alot of $$ on tire shine cost and the results are great (never 1 tire shine complaint unless we totally miss a tire). I'm wondering if I should begin...

"FULL SERVICE" DETAILING - What Does It Mean?

I can come up with names if you want. The detailer is to the vehicle's appearance what the mechanic is to its operational characteristics. Think of the services you get for your car: 1. Mechanical. 2. Autobody. 3. Appearance care, washing, polishing, detailing and cleaning. 4. Registration...

    Any updates on Loans?

I use a local bank. I was at 5.95 fixed and had it lowered to 5.25% fixed. My signature was required and there were no fees.

friction vs touch free cost per car

But what about all the restrictions for friction; ladder racks, roof racks, bug shields etc.? I prefer attended and have run that way (not 24/7/365 mind you) since opening. Just because operators run friction unattended doesn't mean it's the best idea. Too much opportunity for problems IMO...

friction vs touch free cost per car

Is attendant cost factored in? I would not hesitate too much to be unattended with touchfree but cloth / friction I would want to be attended because of 1. damage claims and 2. safety protocol.

Help: Key things to know when purchasing an existing Self Serve?

I'd say the price should be based more on the value of the real estate because the income is so low. The interest rate is too high at 7%. I just switched to 5.25% fixed for my biggest loan. You'd have to spend alot of time at the wash and money for improvements to get the numbers up by a...

friction vs touch free cost per car

Touchfree has a place in the carwash industry. How much share you capture depends upon the specifics of your particular market. The touchfree is a maintenance wash. Occasionally cars need friction with certain types of soils. I have many many customers who use nothing but the touchfree in...

    Help with hose

Is there a restriction? I would wonder what has changed, if anything, that could be causing this repeated hp hose to break. Is there something restricting the flow, like a bad check valve or solenoid valve that should be opening but isn't? When I troubleshoot my IBA I try to see if a...

    What is an Appropriate Response?

I will definitely call her ahead of time for an appointment reminder. I admit that when the detail shop is busy, I let the reminder calls slide. Lately we are very busy (which is great). I know being busy is no excuse to fall off with good business practices like the reminder calls. However...

    D & S Quicksilver Problem

Maybe a hp swivel or 2 would help? Are there any in place now?

    D & S Quicksilver Problem

There must be a hole in the box somewhere that you cannot easily see. However, I would fix the rub-thru situation any way I could. An HP hose inside a gantry should last for years, IMO. Mine do. Some guys on here use hard plumbing in certain spots. Not sure if this tact would work in your...

    D & S Quicksilver Problem

I'd try and improve the oscillator hose situation. Why is it bursting with such frequency? Is it wire-braided HP hose? Is it rubbing on something else? Maybe a beefier hose or some protection from rub-thru could help. Shouldn't burst so often, IMO. I've got HP hoses inside my gantry as...

    What is an Appropriate Response?

All good suggestions; thanks! I always seek to satisfy the customer and I intend to keep the appointment we made. I like the idea of a special whiteglove concierge treatment by the shop manager. I will make a reminder call, too. Thanks again.

    What is an Appropriate Response?

Long-time customer. Obvious alcoholic (a statement of fact, not a judgement). Misses 75% of appointments she books for detailing. Calls after missing 3 appointments a year ago. Wants a full service detail, buff, engine detail, etc. Whole 9 yards. I say okay then book the appointment...
