    November weather

Have you guys ever thought about added profit centers that are less weather-dependent? That's what I am doing. Also, on rainy days I get out my folders of projects I am working on to save money or make extra revenue and chip away at them.

    Downstreaming chem in underbody?

I could only find one product in the Kleen Rite catalog for underbody rust inhibitor and the description is vague. Made by Simoniz. I also looked at a product called fluid film but it is not a carwash application type spray.

    Power Optimizer?

Read an interesting article (well, started, actually) on a device called a power usage optimizer. Said the if a motor, for example, is rated at 80% efficiency it is only using 80% of the available (100%)power coming into the carwash, which is what we are billed for. Apparently a device...

    Downstreaming chem in underbody?

I never said anything about using HFL!! Re-read my post cause it is evident you just skimmed it. I read an article in PC&D magazine where it was recommended to use a low-ph product to NEUTRALIZE the mag and calc. chloride used as de-icer on roadways. It seemed backwards to me, too, putting on...

    Downstreaming chem in underbody?

Read an article in PC&D about Mag and Calcium Chloride used as road de-icer. It suggested an underbody wash featuring a low-ph product (to negate the harful corrosive effects of the road salt) as well as a sealant and said water alone (what I use:() is insufficient at removing the chlorides and...

Holding Off on a Haircut to Buy a New Car

In real life I get negative and bitchy and all of that just like you guys. And rest assured I am a realist when it comes to business, money and finances. However, money is just a tool, nothing more or less. It's meant to be circulated, not hoarded. I refuse to focus too much on the negative...

What next? Looking ahead in life...

It feels like time to focus on what to do next within my business. The possibilities are limitless and in a small company, one can change course or dig in futher on the same course. It is really up to the business owner, which can be exciting, fun and interesting. Currently, it seems to me...

Holding Off on a Haircut to Buy a New Car

Thanks Ron. It's good to hear someone say "things will get better eventually". I invested heavily in my carwash and detail business right before the recession and I am, as they say, 'all in'. Maybe that's why I stay positive whenever possible; I intend to be open for business when things do...

Holding Off on a Haircut to Buy a New Car

"Stay positive and quit whining" aren't judgements. Some things you could do: look at other businesses; used car sales, rental properties and car detailing. All have potential to add to cash flow and profits if done properly. Reduce expenses: recover r.o. water, install cold water rinse, shop...

How to restructure my wash labor

Start with this. http://www.autodetailingnetwork.com/detail-in-progress/ There are now more resources than ever for learning any trade. I apply paste wax with an air-powered random orbital polisher. Clay treatment is easy to learn. The skills required in detailing are basic. The important...

How to restructure my wash labor

Do not enter into a partnership. It's a poor business idea for this type of business. I speak from experience. Run everything yourself. Learn detailing and train staff. There are several ways to go about this. In business, carwash and detail especially, you want to have control over all...

    Gift Card Ideas

My detail shop sells quite a few gift cards around the holidays. I redesigned the cards this year and they look very good. We participate in 'Midnight Madness', a one-day event in early December with progressive discounts fro 6pm-12pm. This has been well-received by our customers. Are there...

    ppliances

Update: I found a broken wire and a nearly chafed-through wire going to (I think) the thermostat. They were rubbing on the belt that turns the drum. I stripped them back, twisted and wire-nutted them then zip tied them out of the path of the belt. Tested and voila! Dryer heats up! Thanks...

How to restructure my wash labor

100 cars at $8 = $800. 120 cars (Bud's example of 20% increase in volume) at $5= $600. Plus more water, chemical, electricity etc. costs for the extra 20 cars in the example. Maybe certain circumstances warrant a decrease in price, but it'd have to be alot more than 20% increase in volume to...

How to restructure my wash labor

I raised my prices to their current level due to the fact that most customers bought my top package by a wide margin (far more than 25% and I have 4 choices). I know there are many theories about price, but if your ideas were absolutely true, Bud, wouldn't my wash counts be far and away...
