Yikes. Widowmaker's are no joke. Most don't survive. Glad you beat the odds.

Cost of upgrading to a larger water line

One of my sites has a 1.5" water meter. Couldn't afford the 2" meter cost as it was over $100K. This site has 5 SS bays and a 90' tunnel that washes 500+ cars on busy days. Put in a 250 gallon storage tank gravity-fed from the attic. Never had an issue.

    Intro and first question

The SS customer and the express tunnel customer are different. There will always be DIY customer that wants to wash their own vehicle at a SS wash. The express tunnels do destroy IBAs though. As far as that particular seller, what an idiot he is for admitting to a stranger that he hides $...

How to remodel mechanical room for cleaner operation

There is no instruction manual for this business. It's a very "figure it out for yourself" type of business.

    Property and liability insurance

The site will wash 200k+ cars so the insurance cost can be absorbed, as distasteful as it is. I always prefer to own my real estate, but this site will cash flow quite nicely so I'm making an exception. My ins broker who is with the WCA ins group, so they are quite familiar with car wash...

    Property and liability insurance

Insurance has gone nuts. I just got a quote today for a tunnel car wash I just leased for the next 30 years. Full serve that I'm converting to express. Just for liability/private property(equip) insurance, the premiums are over $60K per year. Since I don't own the real estate/building, those...

Austin Car Wash Needs Some Help

What brand is your conveyor? I've changed different styles of chain before on my conveyors. You just need to swap the sprockets in addition to the chain/rollers. Contact your local conveyor distributor and start there. Lots of older Hanna systems in TX.

    Switching to count up.

Kudos to your for figuring out that Cryptopay only charges for full minutes. So if a customer hits the stop button at 59 seconds, they just got that time for free, as Crypto will round the charge down to the last whole minute used. Not sure if it was a limitation on my end or what, but I had...

Bill acceptance in the bay, was it a game changer?

So you're saying that after arriving at a car wash, and parking in a bay, a customer is going to get back in their car and leave without washing once they find no way to pay for a wash with cash? You don't think they'll just pull out one of the cards in their wallet?

Bill acceptance in the bay, was it a game changer?

That's going the wrong way. Credit card acceptance is the way to drastically increase revenue. Count up; not down.

    Side Blowers

Standard. The pivoting feature just blows water back the wrong way. Not a fan.

    Side Blowers

Mammoth blowers are the best side blowers around. They're not cheap, but nothing is anymore. I just specced 2 sets of mammoths for my new wash, and the cost before tax and shipping was $41K. So $25K is high for just one set.

Survival; Just bought a car wash, Now tunnel opening a block away

First the good news... SS customers and tunnel customers are different, so your SS bays won't take much of a hit. The bad news... your IBAs will take a big hit. You can't really compete with a shiny big tunnel full of the latest and greatest equip, so focus on the one thing they can't do...

    Arch Vacuums

I got a quote recently for some canister vacs with booms. 3 vac spaces, so two single drops on the outside, and two double drops for the in-between spaces. $34K. I about fell out of my chair.

Are you talking about central vac systems or solo canister vacs?
