    Rebuilding vs. Replacing CAT Pump

Thank you! It looks like it's right on the borderline with shipping and possibly other charges, so I might end up saving a few hundred dollars. I assume a new pump would come with seals and valves included. I’m leaning toward buying a new one. Did I get this right?

    Rebuilding vs. Replacing CAT Pump

    Sorry, I thought I mentioned it: 5CP2120W Cat Pump 4 GPM, 2500 PSI, 6.9 HP (https://www.kleen-ritecorp.com/p-4217-5cp2120w-cat-pump-4-gpm-2500-psi-6-9-hp.aspx)

    Rebuilding vs. Replacing CAT Pump

Hello - I have an old CAT pump that needs to be rebuilt, and I suspect the head may be washed out. Would it make more sense to rebuild it or purchase a new one? I understand that CAT offers a free rebuild—could you clarify what’s included and if there are any costs involved (e.g., seals and...

CAT Pumps 1540E - Pressure Issue

I identified the root cause, the tip size was larger for a few of the new ones we replaced a few months ago. Using a regular bay gun and checking the pressure helped pinpoint the issue. Another problem solved, thanks to the thoughtful input from this group. Much appreciated!

CAT Pumps 1540E - Pressure Issue

We noticed this issue a few months ago and have tried various approaches to resolve it. As for the timing, I’m not sure if it happened suddenly or developed gradually over time, but I suspect it’s the latter. The only change I can recall was adjusting a few tips 2–3 months ago. I plan to revert...

CAT Pumps 1540E - Pressure Issue

Update: Inspected the belt: no signs of slipping or noise. Attempted to pinch the output hose: couldn't pinch it much, but the gauge needle moved slightly (hair). Confirmed no check valves on the high-pressure hose; the hoses run directly from the pump to the IBA tips.

CAT Pumps 1540E - Pressure Issue

This is a 3/4-inch HP hose. I will have to take several steps to make it work as you describe, lot of pain and new fittings. At one point, I pinched the hose with a vise wrench to check if the pressure would increase. However, I vaguely recall that it didn’t make much of a difference. I need...

CAT Pumps 1540E - Pressure Issue

No, we don’t have anything like that. The output of the CAT pump goes directly to the tips on both sides of the gantry.

CAT Pumps 1540E - Pressure Issue

The pump is not pulsating; it produces a smooth sound. There are no check valves on the HP lines. The output of the CAT pump goes directly to the gantry HP tips, and there’s no visible leakage. A hose break would be noticeable, but that’s not the case here. I haven’t yet checked if the belt is...

CAT Pumps 1540E - Pressure Issue

Hello I have a CAT Pumps 1540E installed in my IBA, but it’s only reaching 400 PSI and won’t go any higher. So far, my technician and I have replaced the following components: Gauge CAT Pumps 31770 NBR Seal Kit with Stainless Steel Spring (for the 1540 Pump) CAT Pumps 31775 NBR Valve Kit...

    Water Softener

Thank you, Greg, for your thoughtful input. My IBA system is of a soft-touch type. I think the reason some of you mention "touch-free" could be due to the higher cost of chemicals which in fact reduce costs by adding softener. I haven't heard many customer complaints, but I do notice that on...

    Water Softener

I did consider this, but it would require extensive plumbing work to set up the chemical water input supply for both self-serve and IBA. Since one tank costs around $4k, I'd prefer to invest a bit more to add a second tank and avoid this hassle in the future. I'm currently trying to calculate...

    Water Softener

Yes, I agree. The RO membrane cost me $400, which I currently end up replacing every year or 1.5 years now.

    Water Softener

Mine is a soft touch system. Currently, all my packages include a spot-free cycle. However, there may be a few minor spots caused by small droplets from residual water clinging to the gantry or tips as the machine moves over the blow cycles. Any significant savings from the chemical usage? Can...

    Water Softener

Hello Everyone: I’m considering a $9k investment in a water softener for my car wash (5 self-serve bays + 1 IBA) to reduce chemical/RO membrane costs and improve wash quality. My water hardness is around 8-9 grains (moderately hard), but my tech suggests other upgrades (like paint and decals)...

    MEI Validator Issue

My MEI validator is rejecting all bills. I’ve cleaned the belt, sensor, white rolls, and bill cassette. It worked fine for a couple of weeks, but over the past two days, it’s been accepting only one bill before rejecting the rest. Today, it’s not accepting any bills at all. It keeps flashing 4...
