Is $3 for 4 minutes reasonable with a $2 startup?

My post indicates a $2 startup and that remains steady, therefore we do reduce the time. Our CC customers average between $4.70 and $5.60 depending on location and time of week and account or 31% of the business. We pay back the highest percentage to AMEX but those are the biggest spenders.

Is $3 for 4 minutes reasonable with a $2 startup?

My location is in northern PA. We have plenty of precipitation both rain and snow. We have 23 and 26 year old SS washes and run them tip top. Utilities are killers 12 months for gas, electric and sewer $32,800.

Is $3 for 4 minutes reasonable with a $2 startup?

I am presently charging 66 cents/minute that amounts to $2 to start for 180 seconds. I intend to raise that to 75 cents/minute or $2 to start for 160 seconds this coming winter, that's equivalent to $3 for 4 minutes. When I started 26 years ago the charge was $1 for 4 minutes. Do you feel...

What's Your Experience with Rinnai Tankless Heaters

Thanks Big Leo. How many bays do your four Rinnai units service? I was thinking 3- 198000 btu/hr units for 6 bays in the Norheast.

What's Your Experience with Rinnai Tankless Heaters

Please give me insight to using Rinnai tankless water heaters in replacement of old Raypaks. Do they require a lot of service. Has anyone decided against this brand for any reason? I'd be converting two 6 bay SS's. Would plan 3 units for hot water. Thanks for your help.

Credit Card - Count up or Count down - Case closed.

Putting CC in most frequented bay is not the answer. A CC customer will not necessarily stand in line for that one bay. Try the last frequented bay with your one CC. Actually you should do all the bays. Those that put a short time limit on the CC user are doing themselves a disservice. The...

Thinking of lower start-up price for summer only.

The credit card customers spend more money. Don't hurt them. I would try the opposite. Make the credit card customers start at a lower price than others so that everyone's enticed to use their credit card. Those that use credit cards seem to wash leisurely and spend more time without buzzers...

    Token Decals

I make up my own decals on my Mac using Print Explosion and take the graphic files to FastSigns or another sign company and they make up the decals. You can do it too. I've even made large decals to cover the Rowe 1400 bill changers and I've made large 4' x 3' bay signs with all the instructions.

    Tankless Heater, Calcium, and easywater.com

Please offer any info if you've installed a tankless heater system in the past year or so. Have you had any problem with calcium buildup? Have you any experience with <http://easywater.com> saltless soft water maker?

What's better? $2 start or $3 start, at same rate

Bill: I always kept signs indicating 4 minutes for the START time for some 20 years. When I changed to dollar increments it was necessary to lower the amount of time rather than add a whole dollar. I prefer not to have quarters at all. I believe that using the Washgear is an easy compromise...

What's better? $2 start or $3 start, at same rate

We're down to 180 seconds for 2 dollar tokens, this forces many customers to put in a 3rd token in order to finish. Is it better to have a START requiring 3 dollar tokens for 270 seconds, 4.5 minutes, which is more like the original standard timing of 4 minutes in years past? In either...

    Black Algae

We find algae in the the salt tank of the water softener so it's not just in the hot tank. We will study the water going in and coming out of our extrol expansion tanks. It's hard to clean them out.

    Black Algae

Our two locations operate with well water. One of our locations has a black algae problem. I'm not sure whether it arrives in the water or it grows in the hot water storage tank. We've dumped the tank washed it with bleach but the algae comes back. Does anyone have a clue as to how to get...

credit card count-up; large timer display?

If you're counting up or down you're missing the boat. People wash leisurely and spend more time with no counting. They push STOP when they're finished and that's it! Besides, counting adds stress to a customer, shortens their life and therefore reduces the number of customers available. WAKE UP!

Credit Card Software, Broadband and the Little Guy

I believe that high speed is the way to go overall but only if it's cost effective. I just checked with Bank of America Merchant Services and they told me that they have no requirement that we switch to high speed from telephone dial up. Washgear is said to claim that Visa and Mastercard will...

Credit Card Software, Broadband and the Little Guy

Ben: I've thought of using a network card right in the desk top unit that supports Washgear. Would that network card support a VOIP phone line? Has anyone used VOIP like Skype or MagicJack with a network card? Magic Jack is preferable to Skype because you can plug a regular phone into MagicJack.

Credit Card Software, Broadband and the Little Guy

Ben My two washes are self standing and unattended and not near any of our facilities. We pay about $38 for phone service at each location. I don't need broadband as yet because my Washgear has dial up however I understand that Washgear's latest software does not include dialup but requires...

It's DSL, I also checked bringing Comcast cable in and it amounted to the same cost.

Credit Card Software, Broadband and the Little Guy

Little Guys Anonymous, first of all I am a Little Guy. What I mean by that is that I own two 6 bay unattended car washes. I checked on what broadband would cost me per month and found that I'd have to pay the phone company $142 more than the $76 I'm paying them now for simple business phone...
