We use Macneil conveyors and Ryko conveyors (a modified Macneil) Macneil still uses a drum and Ryko uses sprockets at both ends. I think the double sprocket creates less wear and tear on the chain. The problem with the drums is they are hollow and if you dont pay attention they "fail" (collapse).

You could install a timer in the coinbox to give itself a reset signal every 10 min. Most all of our Ryko's have Ryko coinboxes and there is a lot of communication between the two, so its just a matter of dumbing down the ryko to work with your coinbox.

If you stay on top of it, you only need to replace the bottom two or three brushes when the "fingers" are almost gone. If you run it with a lot of lower brush missing you will start eating into the upper and middle brushes. This is why it is better to replace a couple now rather than waiting...
