Air pump/ FloJet Issues

Having air pump issues / in particularly Flojet issues with Viton seals on Triple Foam applications.. A few things with these - I have them installed correctly with appropriate check valves etc..

- Air continually leaks from the vent on the pump
- In addition the product side seems to stall - and I need to purge the discharge at times re-install that discharge after I purge for the pump to pump again.

The performance of the pumps are bad - the cost isnt the issue - although they are not cheap - major concern is consistency for the customer - one week something works - next week it does not.. so - would appreciate any and all feedback - maybe Flojet is not the way to go?

Maybe your problem is chemical compatibility. Have you tried a santoprene instead? If the diaphragm isn't compatible and distorts enough to get product into the air chamber, you will have shuttle valve problems. Typically the giveaway is when the muffler gets blown off the exhaust port because of chemical or water infiltration.

I have used Kalrez in the past as well thinking all chemical can I cover - the thing that is hitting me is it is on triple foam - to me the chemical compound of that product should not be a problem. Have you used dryers - would this take care of that issue perhaps?

Seems like most FloJet issues are from water intrusion in the air side. Also the way they are mounted makes a difference. Should be mounted vertically with all fittings pointed down. How is your TF FloJet mounted?

Also, I have had a few where the air inlet fitting didn't seem to be held in tight enough with the clip. Usually removing and reinstalling the air line would get it going again. Ive had to actually zip tie the line to be held in the pump tighter on a couple over the years, otherwise they would stall intermittently.

Your problems seem to lead to the pumping side and aren't related to the chemical you're using. In my experience, leaking and stalling is due to oil or water from the compressor. If it was caused by your chemical, you'd see it coming out of the pump exhaust because it's destroying the diaphrams, or they would crack and allow air into the pumped product which would eventually cause the pump to not work at all.
