I have been using an Airlift XRS for 4-5 yrs. It's been great and have not had a problem until now. Could be motor related. Mine is the "old style" circuit board type. They now use a VFD driven motor.

Tech service says some of the old motors have needed to be replaced.

Has anyone had to replace a motor on theirs?

Thanks!

Be sure to install a cover over the motor if you don't have one.

I had 4 of the originals. I'm down to 2. Updated to the new style motor/control box. Motors failed. Much better motor design now. If the motor fails you only have to replace it and not the drive/gearbox unit.(now 2 piece). I had to cut them off because they were seized to the shaft. Not fun. The new drives/gearboxes have stainless drive sleeves to help ease the removal process. I hope that's true. Haven't had to replace one of these.

It has a weather tight cover over the electronics and HMWPE panels as an enclosure which protects but allows it to breathe. I guess there have been problems with the motor shaft enclosure holding moisture and causing rust at shaft bearing. Didn't appear to be happening with mine.

Good to know as I intend to add a door to my IBA before next winter. Ordered old style motor just in case. Hope there are no regrets.

You will be very happy with the new style/design. VFD makes the door speed adjustable. I found you can use this to make fine adjustments to your open/close limits with the push of a button rather than messing with the limit switches (once they are set correctly) The new ones "coast" to a stop rather than stop with a brake.

Had first problem with my XRS last weekend. Of coarse I was on vacation in Florida. My entrance door froze open at 3:00 am. A car went i for a wash it was about 5 deg. outside. 5 cars followed between 3 and 6 am when I woke up and saw door open. Had 2" of ice on walls ceiling and undercarriage was frozen. Had to unroll door to close and thaw everything out. Then had to reset limits. Thankfully my door guy was available, and my helper got in right away to close up the bay. A neighboring wash also had the same problem with one of his XRS doors. I still wouldnt change them to anything else!!!
