Does anyone currently have an anti-collision system installed in their wash tunnel? Because of how our wash / express detail area is setup, the wrap around from the wash tunnel to the express detail area is very short with stacking space for only about 4-5 cars. When we are extremely busy, we currently have our prepper/loader look at the exit end and turn off the wash tunnel manually when he sees a wrap around at the exit end. I wanted to try and automate this feature with an Anti Collision System but I wanted to see how effective it actually works from operators that are currently using it.

We haven't had a collision since we got it but had to get a lighted wait/go sign for several reasons. We're front wheel push and have touchless dryers with VFDs. Some cars take off early during the pause at the exit. Bad dry so "WAIT". Some drivers get completely off the conveyor and flake out. Anti-collision kicks in knocking all equipment off so "GO". Compounding this, the dryers ramp up slowly and give the next car a poorer dry.

I have a sonny's mini tunnel with a anti collision plate at the exit. It shuts down the conveyor in the tunnel when a programmed 10 foot gap is encroached on under the dryers. So far, it is working perfectly. Once the car passes past the plate, conveyor is reengaged.

After being involved as expert witness in legal cases, I would not operate a conveyor without anti-collision system.

I would also make sure both emergency stop buttons in tunnel working flawlessly and have SOP for cleaning silicone build up on finishing line paddock areas.
