Looking to either upgrade this American changer unit or buy new with recommendations and replace entirely - any recommendations? Currently this is vending quarters - I want to switch to tokens as well as upgrade the coinco to MEI validators - Does any one have suggestions? The price of the upgrades - should I just replace the entire thing.. with what?

I upgraded from a Rowe BC2800 (circa 2002) that I had converted with a Etowah Valley Mars kit to a Triad bill breaker. I installed it in August and haven't had a single problem with it so far!
The only thing that is a bit of an inconvenience is loading the $5's into the bill recycler. I guess I don't have enough customers using $5's to make the machine self sufficient.
My machine is set up to dispense quarters and dollar coin.

There's a local guy who has stopped dispensing coins, all he has now is a bill breaker and token changers. I'll ask him what bill breaker he has and if he's happy with it. He's one of the type that won't waste time with a piece of junk, he'll return something to a company if they make promises the hardware can't keep.

Those 1005 units are pretty dang good for the dollar, but are low security. They appear to be targeted for break-ins. The last site I had had those Americans both totally demolished, but the Hamilton changer beside it wasn't even touched. We have installed the Mei Recycler option in those 1005 changers and had very good luck, but the hopper extension doesn't fit anymore. You have the green hoppers which are not as crappy as the yellow ones. The payouts can be configured for token value, but I'm not sure what token sizes the chain will allow. I don't like bill dispensers. They are nifty, but have much higher maintenance and jamming issues, and you have to manually fill the bills all the time.

we converted our rowe bc 400's to the new internet connected bc 1600 design, after several internet up grades these machines work like a champ, happy not to have exchange computer chips, and when there is a problem the machine sends us a notice describing the problem so it can be fixed,
