Booster Pump

What size booster pump should be on my spot free? 4 bays all running 2507 tips? It’s a super saver system with a sta rite pump but the model number plate has faded out and no longer visible. I will be replacing with another sta rite pump but would like more pressure to the bays than I had before the pump failed. (It’s the original pump that came on the system 17 years ago) Thanks in advance!

You'll need a bypass regulator that will adjust to a low pressure. I use this one:

Blue Spring 555 Series Regulator | 5551090 | SMC Valves

The SMC 5551090 Regulator is a brass regulator with Buna seals and a blue low-pressure spring. 500 PSI,10 GPM, 3/8" FPT, 180° F.

What motor do you recommend for this pump? Also if I understand this correct I will need to plumb a return back to my holding tank correct?

You can loop the bypass back to the inlet of the pump, I just prefer to send it to the tank. With a good contactor and a 1 or 2 second delay you hopefully won't have it sticking on, but if it does the pump will crater if it runs all night circulating the bypass. I've seen it many times, in fact the pump will heat 200 gallons of RO water to 100 degrees.

Is there a reason other than the cost difference to not use this stainless steel one from KR? It just seems like there may be enough gain going with stainless long term wise.

The stainless pump won't last any longer pumping RO water. The only advantage is that it can be rebuilt over and over, but the kit or having it repaired by Procon costs more than a new brass pump.
