Bug remover / oven cleaner

Jim L.

Florida panhandle
I’ve got a neighbor who has been using Walmart (Great Value) oven cleaner for bug remover. He sprays it on, waits a few minutes then washes it off with a garden hose and nozzle. So far it has not hurt the windshield, paint or chrome on his new Chevy pickup.

Anybody else ever tried this? Anybody care to speculate on using this stuff long term?

A bit over kill, though being alkaline it would work.

I used to use the good old oven cleaner ( the stuff with lye in it.. ) as engine degreaser. Though, it'd take the paint off of some parts.

Although, I have access to a couple cars that are going to meet their maker, I'll sacrifice the paint on one in the name of science to see how nasty this new cleaner is.

I use oven cleaner when I get hit with Graffiti!! It will take fresh canned spray paint off without generally hurting the wall paint. Just like any pre soak dont leave it on too long!!!
