I have a 15 year old 3/2 which was originally carpeted with a high quality indoor/outdoor carpeting which was glued to the concrete floor. I remember laying the carpeting before installing all the equipment.....pump stands, water softeners...etc. This made it easy to install, but now the carpeting is beyond rotten, and something has to be done. There's no way I want to remove the pump stands, RO etc..... What have others done? The carpeting has been nice to have, not only for esthetics, but also noise. What do you recommend?

FWIW I would think the plain concrete floor or one that's sealed is optimal. Carpeting is one more thing to catch dirt.

You might consider carpeting the walls and/or ceiling for noise dampening - it would also last much longer than on the floor. I can't imagine carpeting the floor of an equipment room, but if I did, I'd use something made for a boat.

You might consider anti-fatigue mating. We found some at Sears that is offered in 2' by 2' interlocking squares. It is easily cut with a knife to fit around equipment, does not slip or skid on concrete floors and is not slippery to walk or stand on when wet. It can be cleaned with a hose or pressure washed. It cost $20 for a pack of six "tiles" - 24-25 sq ft. BTW, we use this in our exhibit booth as flooring so you can see it - try it out - at our ICA booth, 2708 in Orlando.
