Coin acceptance for in-bay?

I am converting a ss to in-bay. I have no experience with in-bay's, but got to thinking (kinda dangerous for me sometimes). In shoping paystations, they all take coins. Do people really spend coins for an in-bay wash? I would think all the income would be bills and plastic. Is it possible to have a paystation without coin acceptance? Would it be a good idea?

Yes. I often see (or hear) customers get $12 back in quarters at the auto cashier, but I almost never have to add quarters back to it.

Before anyone says I should switch it to $1 coins for change, they aren't so easy to get here and I'd be constantly refilling it.

Periodically I have to take excess quarters out of my pay station hopper. I never have to add quarters, and I accept $20 bills. Credit card usage is between 60-70%. My point is that customers have just about every option for paying and I still get more quarters than I give out as change.

Just remember that at times your bill acceptor will get jammed with a wet or wrinkled bill. At that time you want your customers to be able to use coins.

I pay out a lot more quarters than I take in. During the busy months I have to add quarters to my Unitec's about twice a week. I find the quarters to be a pain in the a$$. I have even thought about going to bills and credit only in my IBA's. Right now I am at 40 - 45% credit, the rest cash. Based on the quarters I received last month they accounted for 1.32% of gross sales.

We use dollar coins in our ACW's hoppers. We order $2000 bag of coins from the bank and they get them in a few days. Not all banks will do this.

I have a Senrty Flex Valet for our IBA. We accept bills up to $20 and $1 coins and it only gives $1 coins for change. Never had a problem and my Bank always makes sure they have enough $1 coins for me whenever I need them. Just tell the Bank you will need a supply and they will get it for you. In todays times most Banks will bend over backwards to keep your business. I told them to keep $500 a week for me and they had no problem doing this. Whats also good is a lot of people go straight to the Vacuums with the coins.

I could probably do that, but customers would still use quarters in the ACW and I'd have to restock the $1 coins. The way it is now the coins are almost zero maintenance, may have to throw $50 in there every 3 months. I find maybe three $1 coins in it in that time.

The banks I've checked charge $30 for a box of 500 $1 coins. They only come wrapped.

A long time ago, when a bank wanted to charge me for getting change, I told the manager, "Excuse me but the government gives you this charter and monopoly to handle the currency of the US, I don't think that you can charge for that service"

He "waived" the fees.

We pay out a lot of quarters. We have had a very good winter and I have probably had to buy $2000 in quarters over the winter. Obviously not all for the auto, but some were.
