I have an older Laurel Vending Machines for air freshener trees. Coins will get stuck at the very first gate that it reaches. This is where there is a little swivel on a hub. This seems to be moving very freely and I cleaned the coin acceptor pretty good. I know Laurel fixes these quick and cheap but I was hoping to save the shipping hassle and fix it myself. Any ideas greatly appreciated.

You'll be better off to replace the coin mech. They are only about $20.00 from Kleen-rite. The older 5 Column Air Freshener vendors had security modification sometime ago that replaced the spring and lower slide mechanism. This prevents the machine from giving out free trees when you pull the handles real fast. If your coin mechanism looks like the one in the picture below you should call Chip at Laurel Metals and order the security upgrade.

You need just the Coin Insert, KR part #CB0218, costs a whopping $21.50. I probably have a dozen in the attic at the carwash, they are a pretty common part to go bad. You never want to use any kind of oils on the coin insert or the Laurel mechanism.

Randy,
Thanks for the follow up. Sent it to Laurel. They charged $29 to fix it. Installed it today and it seems to be good. I mentioned in the letter that I want it upgraded. I'm assuming they did it.

The "upgrade" adds a spring to the flipper that rides across the top of the last coin. They used to rely on gravity alone, but snapping the coin return button and pulling the vend knob at the same time would sometimes give free product, and the spring stops that.
