CYA signs

I am debating on installing more comprehensive CYA signs but I am wondering how much protection against lawsuits signs really give you. Does anybody have any first hand experience with this?

Signs save your butt in court. People don't bother to read them, but the judge will. It shows that you used "reasonable care"

My insurance agent happened by today. Having just read this thread I asked him what he felt I needed for signage, I have basically none. He didn't feel signs are that important. I asked him to contact the company to see if they'd send out a loss prevention guy to inspect my wash.

If anything comes of that I'll post it here.

IMO your ins. agent is a moron. If something happens and you have no signs, the judge will think that you didn't care, and you will lose. I have taken my signs to court a number of times, and the verdict was that even though they didn't read them, the "rules/info" was there for them and they must live by them.

If you don't read a contract but sign it do you think you are off the hook?

I think you need a new insurance agent. While you don't want your bays to look like the showroom for a signage company, CYA signs are some of the best "insurance" you could have to protect your a$$ from idiots who like to sue at the drop of a hat.

There are good carwash insurance specialists out there.

To save $, I solicit quotes from competing companies often. All you have to do is photocopy your policy, black out anything you'd like to keep private and let the agent look it over.

I like the CYA policy one roofing contractor had to protect himself against his employees falling off the roof:

Employees are under no circumstances allowed to fall off a roof. If you fall off a roof, you have violated company policy and are terminated immediately. Since you were no longer employed when you hit the ground, you are on your own. :-)
