D & S Quicksilver Idea

I am trying an idea to extend the life of the main water line that runs through the energy chain.

I inserted a 15 foot 1 1/2" vacuum hose into the energy chain and then threaded the hose into it. I have been having to replace that hose about once a year at a cost of just over $300. If a get a few more months out of it, it will be worth it.

One tip...when installing the vac hose, run it straight out of the end of the energy chain just before it loops up to the carriage. Run the hose through then thread both back through the energy chain. It may help to move the carriage around while working the hose through.

Does the vac hose thread into the energy chain without loosening anything or did you have to open it up first?

I didn't loosen anything but I did slide the plastic "dividers" over as much as possible as I went along. Also, pushed like hell on the loose end and used a pliers and/or a channel lock to pull the hose through. It does take some considerable effort and would have been easier with two people and two ladders. I don't think I would have been able to get the water line through the bend without running it straight out the end like I described earlier.
