Damage Claim

HeyVern

Well-known member
Anybody ever have this happen? Got a voicemail from Progressive Insurance this morning, claiming that a customers car was damaged on October 2. I have not been contacted by anyone claiming their car was damaged. Can't actually get a person on the phone when you call Progressive. Just curious if anyone else has had this happen.

My dad and I had something like that happen. Back in August 2022, we got a call from an insurance company whose name I forget. They said that earlier in the year, we had damaged two cars owned by a customer. We were confused. We have our information plastered all over the place. This was also a customer who renewed his membership yearly and had received and called us plenty of times. The guy is a blunt guy, too. If something had gone wrong, he seemed like the type who would come out guns ablazing.

The insurance company came out and checked our machines. They could see that we had not done the damage. The insurance company said that the customer's body guy said there were chips in the paint and that they had to have come from our touch-free. With that information, I have a feeling the body guy and the customer concocted a plan to blame us for it. Customer gets his vehicle fixed on somebody else's insurance.

We cut the customer off once his year was up. We did not contact him. He did not contact us. Good riddance.

October?!! Ha ha...I'd tell them to pound salt or send me a video. Five months is completely unreasonable even if you did damage their car. They would need very good proof which I doubt they have.

I've had it happen twice.

First time insurance company called me and said that one of their insured customers damaged their vehicle while washing it one of our self-serve bays! Ha. The rep on the phone kept demanding my insurance info. Heck no. They threatened to take me to court. See you there! I said. Never heard from them again.

Second time was insurance rep called me and said one of their customers made a claim of damage from my tunnel. Date of of damage was several months prior. I again denied it as the customer did not inform or show us the damage. So I was not about to pay for claimed damage that was never reported or that I had ever seen. Never heard from them again.

Yes, I have had that happen three times. As others have said, tell them NO. No contact from customer, a long time frame, and no equipment issues.

They always wanted my Insurance company info, which I never give out to anyone. I told them it did not happen at my wash, and that their customer is scamming them. End of contact.

They've called twice, both while I was busy with customers and couldn't answer, I returned both calls, but can never get an actual person on the phone. I left a message yesterday told them no cars had been damaged in my wash. If I ever actually talk to them, I planned to do exactly as everyone has said, I was just curious if this was a fairly common occurrence, which it seems to be.

There is the issue. I had and accident several years ago and totaled my truck. My small independent agent got it handled in about 48 hours. When I went back to the towing lot to get a few personal items from the truck the manager was stunned to see how quickly it was handled. He told me that good rule to follow is the more you see an insurance company advertise on TV the more likely they were a horrible company to deal with. He said Progressive was absolutely one of the worst for getting claims settled. They would try any angle they could to avoid liability.
