Dial up modem errors

We changed cc processors and are having a trerrible time with mulitple locations and network errors. The phone company have been there to check the lines. Processor blames the phone lines, unitec blames the processor of phone company. Any ideas?

In the past we use to have trouble with using external US Robotics modems after install variable frequency drives (VFD's). We found using internal modems were more reliable. We also found using power shielded cable between the VFD and the motor solved the problem. That was years ago before internet based card clearing was available and it's been a while since we've had to deal with these problems. Copper phone lines are going bye, bye and the new digital and internet (Voice over IP) solutions don't seem to support dial up modems very well. Has your phone service provider made any changes to the way they delivery your analog phone lines?

Looks like the likely problem is your new processor though. Maybe their equipment is inferior. If Unitec can connect to your modem and do tests with no problems they might be right. Good luck

When a modem connects, it handshakes then drops into communications mode to handle traffic. This information can be logged in the modem itself. It can also be retrieved while in service. Has anybody looked at this, it would tell you what its doing when it works and when it doesn't? It would then be possible to create an init string (a start up profile) that uses the config the other end likes.

However, with many locations experiencing the same problem, it does sound like the processors equipment.

BTW, if you can make a phone call on those lines and it sounds OK, then its not likely the phone. The protocols used by the modems in this situations are very robust as they are more concerned with reliability as the data amounts transferred are small.
