you can download hyperterminal from the internet (it's a small file) and then use it while your computer is running on Vista or any other new version of windows. Microsoft stopped including it with Vista but it stil works. I used it for about 6 months on a Vista machine until I bought a new computer and had Windows XP installed on it. I found it by doing a search for Hyperterminal.
