Different types of solenoid valves ?

What would you use the different types of solenoid valves for ?
Diaphragm ?
Pilot piston ?
Direct acting ?

Just curious what the best type for different applications in the ss wash would be.

I'm playing around with a VFD and wanting to build an inlet manifold for my pump stand.

Diaphragm solenoids are good for high-flow. The orifice is usually as large as the plumbing.

Pilot-actuated solenoids are what you'll usually see for high pressure applications.

Direct acting are for low-flow, low-pressure. The orifice is usually much smaller than the plumbing, and the maximum operating pressure with the largest orifice might only be 50 PSI.

FWIW, I use the GC high-pressure 3/8 solenoids for spot-free, 450 PSI to the bays, 3/8" Dema diaphragm for city-pressure rinse to the pumps, and 1/4" Kip for soap/wax to the pumps and the low-pressure for the bays. I have almost no problems with any of those valves.
