Dilling Harris Max Vend II

Have a Chance to buy 2 of these, for $1200. Anyone Ha e any advice on these?

I'd call Dilling/Harris and see what it's like to get parts first.

You can get a couple used candy vending machines for that price and have more selections and be able to get replacement parts and not have to cut a hole in a wall.

They are a rebranded vending machine. I used to have some and I think Kleenrite sells the same one with their name on it. As I recall you can get parts like circuit boards etc. from a company in Arkansas but I do not recall the name of the company off the top of my head. I am sure Randy will recall who it is as he directed me to them.

I believe the Vendmaster was/is produced in Arkansas. It is an 18 item machine. The Max Vend II was produced in Minnesota. It is an older version and is only 12 items. Kleen rite does not have parts for the max vend 2 that I am aware of. If you buy them, definitely buy both, but that is too much to pay. $800 tops for the pair.

IMHO, vending is a waste of the operators time, effort and money. It is nice to offer a convenience item for the customer, but you won't make any money. Let your machine get vandalized even 1 time, and you've lost money.

There is money to be made from vending, especially from a good glass-front machine that takes credit cards.

D/H is now Grant, Dilling and Harris. I had DH meter box doors that needed repair and GDH did not have replacement parts nor did they offer repair. You can google Dilling Harris and it will take you to the GDH site. You can get the phone number from the site. I'd guess that they don't have parts or offer repair. I like MEP001's post about candy machines. I don't think you'll need much space if only offering car care products. Black Jack tire shine, blue magic window cleaner, microfiber towels, armor all original and cleaner, little trees (black ice, new car scent, cherry, vanilla and a couple others). My experience over three years is it is more of a convenience for the customer as opposed to a big money maker. Trying to make money with it, but mostly find it to be a bother. Will look at adding credit card reader per MEP's post.

I have one at one wash. It's 15 years old and still working. The bottom row of items is vulnerable to theft. I'm in a good area so it's not too big a deal. I keep waiting for it to die so I have a good excuse to replace it. I think it is too small, but the large ones are on the other end of the spectrum. Personally, I would not cut a hole in the wall to fill with used max vend II.

My view of vending is a lot like getnbusy's. If you have spare time and want to maximize revenue at a single site it is a way to increase site revenue, but you could argue that when you factor in cost of supplies, the almost inevitable shrinkage, and time required to stock it is probably the worst ROI on the property. I used to have a large refrigerated in the wall vendor and sold a decent amount of drinks in the Summer, but the unit not only uses a decent amount of electricity in the Summer, but heated up my climate controlled equipment room, so in addition to item cost there is a energy cost to consider (for the refrigerated units).

I used to run a wash that had a solar heated equipment room - 4" of concrete on the roof topped with black tar, kept the equipment room a nice 150° until at least midnight in the summer months.

I highly recommend AC in the equipment room! It makes it much more enjoyable to work in there in the Summer. And I know I contradict myself in one post griping about an extra $30 a month in vending, but will splurge on AC in the Equipment room. But when it's 110 degrees in one I'm going to do only whats absolutely necessary and GTFO. When it's 80 in there I will actually clean, organize, and tinker.

I have 4 of these units still in operation. Once the main board goes, its junk. There is no replacement available for the main board.

The D/H Max-Vend 2 is actually better designed than the newer Vend-Master.... well I believe just because of the controller protection. On the Max-Vend 2 it has a thicker plastic piece in front of the controller.... on the Vend-Master it is a thick sticker.

I actually purchased a Max-Vend 2 a couple years ago for a backup.... I believe they are good machines. They really would be perfect with guarantee vend though.

I will delete this post if I ever have a Vend-Master to sell. LOL I actually would sell 2x Max-Vend 2's for $1200 also.
