A while back i replaced some equipment with a Sonny's 901 mitter spyder wrap configuration. As is common with many new builds throughout Chicagoland the reverse wraps are right after the pre soak arch. First thing my dad says is "There's no dwell time. "

I see new setups with reverse wraps first immediately followed by regular wraps, then 2 miters in a row. So, I can't help but wonder, is dwell time less important now because chemistry is better?

My preferred set up is Mitter/Wrap, Mitter/Wrap, then Mitter. Lower details under the Mitters. My thinking is that for ice and snow / frozen issues, heavy dirt, cooked on bugs and bird poop, having distance between the pieces that does the tops or sides allows stuff to soften, thaw, loosen, soak, etc.

Am i over thinking this?

Thoughts?

“Am i over thinking this?”

I don’t believe so.

One method to reduce dwell time in friction wash without increasing water temperature or changing pH is to increase the amount of surfactant in detergent. This improves water's ability to wet things and spread over surfaces.
