Those recommending a heat gun are right on the money. That's what professional detailers, car dealers and bodyshops use.
However, if you don't have a heat gun, simply use a hair dryer. It'll work fine. The object is to get the surface nice and hot, so the adhesive releases. Warm the entire surface of the decal.
Then, simply pick off the decal by catching an edge and peeling it back.
Once done, a cloth with mineral spirits will do just fine in removing the sticky residue. Lacquer thinner, 3M adhesive remover, or any solvent-based degreaser. In a pinch, use nail polish remover.
