Hello,

30 years of doing this car wash thing. Just replaced an Electroswitch two-stack 8 position rotary switch. For all those years when the flat side of the shaft is "pointing" toward 11/21 position the switch is in the stopped position. No power going to anything. Just installed a new switch in a bay and it's 180 degrees different. The flat side of the shaft needs to point to 15/25 to be in the stopped position. Checked all my other spares and a couple other bays and they're as they've been for 30 years. This new one is 180 degrees off. Anyone else experienced this?

Is this different one also an Electroswitch brand? I've only seen a difference like that between Electroswitch's 10-position and Shallco's.

My only guess would be that it got assembled wrong. IIRC you can take the front plate off and rotate the output shaft 180°.

Yes! have found several replacements with the flat not in the correct orientation. I have also found that the switches get worn so they only rotate easily in the clockwise direction. If you try to rotate counterclockwise that switch is very stiff.

I ran into that situation after taking one apart to clean the contacts. After putting it back together, it was 180 degrees out. It's no big deal to rotate the switch 180 degrees in the coin box, but it's a bit of a surprise when it does happen. The shafts get worn so they get really sloppy. You can take them apart and reverse the shaft to get a fresh surface. It's a bit of a job but it doubles the life of the switch. 8 position switches are cheap enough that you wouldn't bother. 10 and 12 position switches are pricey enough that it's worth the effort.

It isn't a big deal rotating the switch 180 degrees in the bay box unless you've got listed in your maintenance manual "....install the switch so that the groove in the threads is located at the 6 o-clock position" and your guys call you on a Saturday after replacing a switch that everything isn't working right in a bay.

I upgraded to 10 position switches a couple of years ago. I've got 15 8 position switch switches sitting in my parts bin that I will never use. I go to kleen-rites expo. Does anyone here use 8 position switches and also goes to kleen-rites expo. I would be happy to sell/trade them.

I am kind of partial to 12 selection menu buttons. But then I got talked into that way back in 1987 so of course it is understandable that I would not want to belittle myself for that momentous decision that I made. I am not denying that with the accompanying extra distribution PCB etc that there is extra effort involved.

I just honestly believe the menu button box is more end self service car wash customer friendly! No I am not interested in turning this into a possible debate over whether this is enough to offset that fact that we went the ATM route vs credit card in each of 6 bays, 4 vac,s & 2 dog wash stations!
