In Ohio all highways are measured by the DOT and shown on a flow map for each county. Some local municipalities do this for other roads too but I have not seen much of this info available online. Most of the time the Ohio info is dated plus it doesn't include non-highway arteries. For example the other day I looked at one that the most recent recording was done 11 years ago. In doing some research on the innerwebs I found that some methods are really complicated and some seem overly simplified. Most take a 15 minute count and use a calculation to arrive at the estimate. I know that traffic count is not the final answer to a good location. It is one of many factors and probably weighs pretty heavily into what makes a good one. What do you guys use to estimate traffic counts?

Buy your own traffic counter on Ebay for under $500 and do your own study?

I never looked into those but it should be more accurate than a calculation based on a partial count.

Neither did I until recently where I was evaluating a potential site and wasn't happy with the city/county/state counts.
