On the machine itself, I've been using a halogen bulb (looks like a mini metal halide bulb). It has a piece of glass that supports the filiment inside the bulb, which I think helps keep it from moving and breaking while the machine moves. They have been lasting a lot longer than a regular "heavy duty" bulb.
On the builbing stop light, I replaced the red and green floodlight bulbs with colored LED floodlight bulbs. Like you, I was replacing them quite regularly. Haven't replaced an LED bulb since I installed them, over a year now.
Hmmmm...LED...I've been wanting to convert my "stop, go, backup" sign to LED. I see they have colored LED bulbs on the site also. I may have to give that some thought. Which bulb are you using?
Try using what is called a single bulb, you should be able to get them from you local electrical house, if you have a problem finding them i can get you the part #
I got the PAR38 w/ 126 LEDs. They are clear when they're off, and the LED's show the color when they are on. I'll try to get some pictures to post here.
If the regular shape LED's were bright enough, I suppose you could replace the standard rough service bulbs with them and they should last a very long time.
