I have begun treating my exposed metal in the carwash with a product called fluidfilm. http://www.fluid-film.com/

I use it on beams, door springs, shafts, angle iron , hose fittings etc.

Pretty good stuff. I slap it on with a paintbrush. Smells like the business end of a sheep, but seems to work well so far.

Seems every carwash could find a use for it.

Around here, garages sell it as an undercoating/rustproof for cars.

I had to replace some beams this year that had multiple holes in them and were falling apart, so in the spring I planned on painting all exposed beams in hopes of having them last longer. I might have to give this a try. Keep us updated with how it holds up.

It is lanolin from sheeps wool. I use it on my snow plow for rust prevention and so the snow won't stick on the plow blade.

It comes in an aerosol can. I just spray it on. I used to use WD-40, I dont remember the last time I used WD-40 since I bought Fluid Film. I know you can also get it in gallon sized cans, but I havent tried that yet.

I have a Rhino mat mat cleaner which I treated the inside (exposed metal, bolts, chains) with Fluid Film. It still looks like new after 5 years sitting in the wash!

I bought a 5 gallon pail. It can be applied with a brush or in a pressurized sprayer. The stuff is great and very useful at the carwash!
