We are getting close to getting our used JE Adams 28000 6-in-1 vac up and going and installed. One of the last things to figure out is the bill validator. It is a Mars AE 2411 U5 and probably original to the machine.(2004) Upstacker 115 volt and accepts only 1s and 5s. It will not power up. I took out the main circuit board and the big capacitor is bloated and that end of the board is a little dark. With all the electrical issues this vac had it was suggested that it may have ran on low voltage for a short time. Since we are going to put a cc reader on it we don't feel that the need is all that strong for bill acceptance. The machine is setup for it though and if we could fix this or replace it with a used one or rebuilt one it might be worth it. Here are the questions:
1. Could just a capacitor prevent this thing from powering up?
2. Is this able to accept the new 5 dollar bills? It does not say anything on the ID sticker about a flashport.
3. When shopping for a used or rebuilt one I see other models that look identical but might have a U3 or U7 suffix in the model number instead of the U5. What's the difference in these models?
4. What should I look out for compatibility wise when buying used or rebuilt?
