I was reading a car magazine today and they were talking about the surging demand for new cars with Matt finish paint jobs. They explained that to properly take care of this type of paint it should not be rubbed. It explained that the best way to wash this type of paint is to go the a spray wand car wash to preserve the flat finish. Tunnel friction washes will actually start to gloss the paint finish. Younger buyers are moving to this type of finish on their cars so maybe there is some hope for the SS bay and touchless IBA.

I've always thought that paint finish style looked terrible - one step above primer - and if not done properly it looks even worse!

That said, it might cause a resurgance in touchless tunnels as well as SS / touchless IBAs if it becomes popular enough.

BMW currently offers this paint finish on some models. MB will be offering on their new entry level cars marketed to the younger crowds. Hyundai can't make enough of the youth model car that is offering this paint. I also do not care for it as a paint finish.
