This morning my wife and I were making our usual Saturday morning Starbucks and car wash viewing run. I always drive by Sudsy Springs car wash in South Lubbock as Homer is a good operator and his wash is first class and sometimes gives me an idea I can use. So this morning I was on auto pilot, doing the usual Saturday morning routine - pulled into Sudsy Springs with my wife and my venti no water Chai Latte, admired the bright clean yellow bollard covers...again, stopped, got out, walked into the self serve bay and put the wand back in the holster and the tri-gloss gun back in its holster as both were lying on the bay floor. When I got back in my truck, my wife asked: "Do you realize what you just did?" It's just a natural reaction by now.

So, Homer, if you watch your security camera and see some stranger tidying up your ss bay, it was just me.

Just did that the other day :D

When you are tied in so directly to how things should be taken care of, it is the most natural and comfortable reaction, no matter where you are.

I just have to quite tidying up my competitor's washes ;)

Very, very, very, very, long ago when I was a teenager my summer job was at the local swimming hole where I was a life guard and gave swimming lessons. After spending 10 to 12 hours watching people swim and scanning the water for bodies,,,, I cannot get out of that habit when I am around water where people are swimming, I catch myself guarding the place just like I was still a lifeguard.. I really cant relax because of the habit when I am around swimming. This is not related to car wash owners but shows how habits effect us all,,,,well maybe the water is a common thread.

Once on vacation I stopped by a wash next to a McDonalds. I saw some guy banging on the coin box.
I asked him what's the problem and he said that the coin slot was jammed and he lost his money.
I noticed it was a D & S box and I tried my key and opened it.
I unjammed the coins dropped them in the coin safe slot.
I gave him a free wash and told him I'm sorry and the wash is on the carwash but next time if it happens don't bang on the equipment.
You thought I gave him a million bucks.
My wife told me we were on vacation.

I've done the same thing as JMMUSTANG, except on an Industrial vacuum.

My motehr met another operators wife ta the department store. Asked "What are you shopping for? " Answer "A rain Coat, we only go out when it's raining."

Mom always told us "Don't ask your father for anything on a rainy day."

Was checking a competitors wash & their vac nozzles were wore out so I took my little handy nipper tool I saw on the forum several years ago & clipped their vac nozzles so they would work better. The good thing about this post is that we take care of each other. That's a pretty nice thing to say about people in our industry.

After growing up working in a convenience store, I caught myself, for years afterwards, facing shelves, turning soda cans so the label faces out, etc. in other stores. I've almost gotten over it!
