Hamilton ACW 5 Hook Up

I have my ACW 5 all hooked up to the best of my knowledge and want to start running some test washes via the controller, but I need to know what terminals my wash hot wires go to? All the wires for the different packages have been hooked up, but I don't know where to hook the last 2 wires, since terminals 9, 10, 11 are open.

Any suggestions?

I checked the manual and it looks like 9 and 10 is where its at, but I'm not positive.

9 and 10 are for your cycle inhibit you need to no what voltage your system uses for this ie 120v. 24vac 24vdc ect be carefull if un sure hold off untill you are sure. cant rember what 11 is for off the top of my head.

Main power should be hooked up in the electrical box to the left of the relay panel

I ended up finding the manual on their website and hooked my wires up to 9 and 10 for the 24vac signal and all is well at this point, now I just have to figure out how to program in my wash package prices since everything is set at $1-4...

Programming the controller is easy. Use the 4 buttons on the side of the controller. They are White, Red, Black and Yellow.

Yep, just got it programmed...quick question...does the ACW come standard with 2 harnesses for coin acceptors? I am not familiar with this machine at all, but I can only find one...

Yes it should 2 coin acceptors with a "Y" harness that will have a small harness going to each coin acceptor. I've seen a lot of ACW's that one of the coin acceptors has been blanked off for some reason and used the coin acceptor on the other side. The coin acceptors are specially made for Hamilton, meaning you can't use a coin acceptor from a bay coin box in the ACW, the coin pulse is different.

Can I hook the second slugbuster up to the same exact wires as the first one and the signal will still be differentiated by the controller? This is the last thing I have to do and I will be ready to open!

John, I just sent you a couple of pictures of how the coin acceptors and wiring is configured for the ACW -4/5. The coin acceptor on the right is for quarters only and they drop into the Hopper. The one on the left is for Tokens if it’s a Slugbuster coin acceptor. If you’ve got IDX MA-800 or X-10 you can have multiple coins on that side. I've seen ACW's that have only one MA-800 or X-10 coin acceptor on the the left side and they took everything on that side.

Thanks Randy, I will take a look at the pictures and see what I can figure out. The reason I need two acceptors is because I will accept $1 coins in one that will also replenish my change hopper. The second acceptor is more or less a convenience factor that will accept .25...make sense?

To take and dispense Dollar coins on the Hopper side of the ACW4/5 you’re going to have to have the software in the controller changed to a v4.23 USA1 and you’re also going to have to change the Hopper wheel to a Golden Dollar wheel, if you haven’t had this done what want to do won’t work.

John, it makes sense, but you probably already know that dollar coins are mostly a one-way street. Many leave the wash and few come back. You will always need to manually replenish the hopper so don't drive yourself crazy trying to have two acceptors. IIRC you also use tokens so you need a multi-coin acceptor as well. I would just go with the IDX multi and not worry about a second acceptor.

Surprisingly, that is one of the things that is working great! The dollar coin acceptance and change is working good, I just have to figure out if I can piggy back these wires...I guess I could just wire it up and see what it does when it accepts a coin...

What version controller do you have? When turn off the power and turn it back on the version number will pop up on the display. You’re going to need a "Y" Harness to make the other coin acceptor work right. There are 2 coin lines that go to the controller one for the left and one for the right. If you splice into the one on the left you’ll get the same coin signal as the coin acceptor on the left, if you use the correct coin acceptor. The coin acceptors that are used on ACW’s are different than the ones that are used in the bays and vacuums, the coin pulse duration is different.

It doesn't necessarily need two, but one is for whatever coins are in the hopper so that coins accepted for a wash drop straight into that, the other is for any other coins. one might want or need to accept.

MEP is right. I have been running only one in five different ACWs for years. I accept quarters, dollars, and tokens through a multi-coin. You can let them drop into the token box, or as in my case I moved the multi-coin to the position over the hopper. I made a coin bucket that fits nicely inside the top of the hopper. I got it at WalMart and took me about 5 minutes to make it work.
