I have 2 changers. 1 errors out. (the code I think is a 3,2 and a 1/2 of 1). We did put a new motor in about 6 months and everything has been great. But now it will shut down. We dump half the coins and reset and good to go. If we fill it back full of coins, it starts to act up again.
We have taken the hopper apart and cleaned and looked for any worn parts, jams or dirt. Put it back in service and will run fine for a while. We have also switched out the harness with our second changer. Again it will run for a day or 2.

I don’t think your reading the error code correctly. Do you have a controller manual? A 3-2 error on your controller is a “Dime input stuck” error. Next time it shuts down count the flashes on the controller, that should tell what’s wrong or give you a good starting point. The half of a 1 on the validator means the validator is inhibited or shut down. When you changed the Hopper motor did you also change out the Payout switch and the bowl assembly? Does the other changer shut down with the same error? Are you dispensing Quarters, Dollar coins or tokens?

Thanks Randy. You are probably correct on the code. But it always comes up with the 1/2 1. The only thing we did not change out was the bowl assy. We only dispense coins. The other changer does not shut down.

You’re probably getting a 2-3 error code. That’s a “Hopper 3 jammed” error, Hopper 3 is your primary Hopper on the Hamilton Bill changers. When it goes down what do you have to do to get to work again? Next time it goes down turn On the Hopper dump switch at the bottom of the Hopper, if it hums the Hopper is jammed. This is not good, the motor is designed to stop by the brake at the back of the motor. When it stops at the front, by a coin jam it puts stress on the transfer case (gear box) and shorten the life of the moor assembly over time. Look at the bottom of the bowl for a groove that will wear into the bottom of the bowl, sometimes it looks like it the groove is cut into bowl at the factory. A ½ of a 1 on the validator of a one means that the controller has shut down the changer when it detected an error, this is normal. Another thing you could try could be to switch the Hopper from one machine to the other to see if the problem goes with the hopper. Be sure to turn off the power to the changer whenever your inside fiddling around with the components.
