have hamiliton er 60 with mars validator dispensing dollar tokesn, getting unexpected hopper payout code on controller, i have cleaned hopper and switch, i get two distinct clicks of switch when i manually move it up and down so it seems to be in proper adjustment. could it simply be bad switch?

Listen to the hopper when it stops running - you should hear a "clunk" when the motor brake catches. If it's sticking or broken the motor will run on and will occasionally let a coin up to the switch.

If you have a broken Brake assembly it will look like this on the back of the motor.

I've also seen the plastic "finger get broken off. Sometimes the metal piece just gets stuck to the motor.

it ran fine for a few hours. now i am getting two flashes on the mars validator, which says, disabled from system. controller is not flashing any error code. it will not reset with controller reset button, you have to cycle power and even then it will only work for a few minutes.

How old is the Mars validator? It almost sounds like there is something wrong with the validator or the cycle inhibit harness. Do you have a Hamilton validator that you can install temporarily to test the controller. Did you turn off the power when you were taking the Hopper in and out? Is the out of service light on when it goes off line?

the validator is approx 5 years old. the service light has long since been gone since it served as a constant conduit for theves to pop off and then jackpot the hopper. i have two changers so today i am going to try switching hoppers between each changer. if this does not work i do have a back up validator. i will keep you informed.

Now we are getting somewhere. If your validator is 5 years old and hasn?t been serviced you might want to consider having it serviced/rebuilt, they don?t last forever.

The newer style 1-H Main Harness #48-1005 has a quick disconnect plug that prevents the harness from being shorted out to jack pot the Hopper.

Good idea to flip flop the Hopper to see if the problem goes with the Hopper or stays with the machine.

randy, after two days of switching the hoppers both units have run fine with no failures.
dont know. glad its working but dont know how long it will last. will keep you informed.
