Hydrominder inlet screens

These little screens seem to be more bother than they are worth. I would bet you a dollar to a doughnut that if you looked at all of them in your wash, half would have major blockadge/debris/corrossion in them. So I've started just removing them instead of cleaning or replacing. Anyone else ever done this? If so what has been your experience?

I removed my screens and installed a screen type filter on the inlet line that feeds all of the hydrominders on my pump stand. The screen is bigger, doesn't clog up, and easier to deal with. I put a ball valve on each side of the filter. I clean it or change it once a year.

Removed these screens years ago so I wouln't need the garden hose connectors. BIG MISTAKE. Debris in hydrominder messes it up and then you need to take it apart to clean it.

So, either keep them and buy a few spares so you can swap a good clean one for a messed up one or put in another good in line water filter near them and check it regularly. I actualy have the in line stainer in the water solenoid supply line. Keeps debris out of the water solenoids.

I like the idea of putting a larger screen on the entire water supply line. The original ones sometimes clog up so slowly that you don't notice it till the whole line goes weak. As long as we're redesigning the Hydrominder, it would sure be nice if they used a stainless screw to open it up and replace the diaphram or clean it. After a few years in the warm moist FL environment the heads have mostly evaporated.
