I-Meg Tip

I purchased some I-Meg tips and was wondering if anybody has experience using them? I haven't had time to try one yet. They have this weird looking SS figure 8 insert in the inlet. Will this be more problem than its worth? Are the I-Meg tips better than the standard Meg?

I changed out all my tips about a month or so ago with std Megs. I noticed the spray pattern was wider on two of them compared to the other 2 bays. All pressures to the bays are the same. Should there be that much difference? It is very noticeable. I just haven't taken the time to do any experimenting! It seems the bays with the wider pattern are the least used! Customers do notice these things!

That insert is a stabilzer vane, for use on nozzels that come from the side of a pipe like an inverted L arm. It directs the flow better.

It's easily removed for use on a gun. Just stick in needle nose and twist and pull. I don't think it hurts a lot but not needed with a gun.

As a tip wears the spray pattern will reduce as it becomes washed out. Seems kinda soon though... Switch two of the tips and see if you get same result from the other bay..

I have played with imeg. They do cut like a knife and you need to reduce pressure to the bay or they could be harmful imo. At higer pressure it could almost puncture skin. Yeah it hurts, I tested it... Lol

The spray is thinner and concentrated like the difference between a sharp knife and a butter knife.

I have kept one bay with an imeg and slightly lower pressure. It makes the gun a little easier to handle. It uses less water and cuts well for sure. But lower flow may not be a good idea for instance if you have high winds, imeg doesn't wet down the vehicle as much as a meg with more water flow.

I have tested imeg on some surfaces like concrete and algae on caulk - the imeg cut it clean the meg didn't. It cuts like a knife at 1200psi. I'm down to around 1000 to keep it safer for customers.

We like them but we have noticed there is a trade off in the sense that if your customers dig under their wheel wells with mud they are much more likely to get plugged really messing up the spray. A nozzle protector might help prevent that ... depending on the style of gun you use. I wonder if most operators use nozzle protectors in their SS bays?

I wouldn't even consider not using a nozzle protector.

I use protectors, I think they're called dingbats.

I moved from IMEG tips to V tips. I'm told, and have noticed that the IMEG doesn't have a consistent spray pattern. It appears to be more concentrated on the outer edges than in the middle. The V tips appear to have a consistent pattern from end to end. This is just my opinion/observation.

Thanks for the replies! I see there has been several threads started before on the subject. I guess I should have did a search first?! From reading the other threads this morning, I'm already leary of the imeg's spray pattern being like a "knife edge". I've cut myself pretty good even with a meg tip. I don't want to create an even more unsafe condition for my customers. Hopefully today I'll get some time to try the imeg to see how it compares and report back. Thanks sgain!

Been using IMEGS with tip protectors for years, no issues,,,,,,

There is a very noticeable difference between the IMeg and standard Meg tips. More so than I had expected. The best I can describe the difference is the IMEG is a flat spray and the spray from the MEG tip is somewhat diffused. (Like others have explained)....I can't decide which I like better? So I put an IMEG in the truck bay to see how well I like it.

The IMEG was originally developed to increase the impingement factor for use in touchfree automatics. Personally I don't think I would use them in a self service application since it refines the spray pattern too much but if it works for some that's fine.

I had these in my touch free, but when I replaced them I couldn't find any to match the sizes that were in there, so I went with a standard tip. Would an imeg clean better?

They definitely increase the impingement factor by intensifying the pattern. That is be a good thing as long as you are getting good coverage. Unfortunately I have seen it also cause tiger stripes in some automatics when coverage is bad.
