Insurance Liability Rate Factors

We have saved on our liability insurance over the years by separating the laundromat, dog wash & vending income from self service car wash income. Anybody besides me wondering why the self service car wash category has a liability rate multiplier a quite a bit higher than the other isolated categories?

For those who have both drive through car washes & wand style ... does it help to separate the two? Do your insurance underwriters just lump both the drive through & the wand type together?

I am just concerned about the insurance underwriters charging more for the car wash category because they can ... rather than basing the extra charge on actual statistical evidence.

Any thoughts? I am thinking this could be a sensitive & somewhat intimidating subject for many of you ... so I will understand if there are no responses.

I have a 100' tunnel, Quick lube, self serv bays, tire center and laundromat. Anything automotive related is all priced the same rate.

My insurer just asked for those breakdowns this past year fir the first time. They wanted separate s/s, automatic, vending, and vacuum. My rates did not go down because of this. But they did not go up either.
