I'm looking for an easy way to run an intercom to my car wash using the internet. The topics around here are several years old.

Has anyone done this?

Sometimes I see someone (via video) fussing with an ACW, and it would be handy to be able to talk to them.......

It shouldn't be that hard???

There are several "nanny" style cameras that are about $150 and work pretty well at least in my inside home environment. I have a WeMo wifi camera as a supplement to my home security system. Not sure how well it would work in the elements, but it allows me to listen or talk (walking talkie style, can't listen if the talk button is pushed). The WeMo requires me to log on and actually see what's happening to then react.

But just thought of this, though I've not tried it.... The video doorbell. As I understand these, someone pushes the doorbell button and it rings with two way video to your smart phone

I already have a HD video system. What would be perfect is an AUDIO ONLY setup. You'd think there'd be something (without the video) that would allow a two way conversation, (initiated from either a home computer, or a smartphone). You could install a speaker and microphone at the ACW, and only activate it when needed remotely.

I too have an HD system. I have the ability to listen and talk over by PA system. If a customer leaves a message on my posted number I get an immediate alert. The Only thing I've seen that allows the customer to reach me "live" is the video doorbell. CBS good morning just did a story on the RING brand doorbell. It has one way video and 2 way audio, I guess you could put a piece of tape over the camera and just have voice. These units also have adjustable motion sensing. I'm not sure if it allows you to pull up the video/audio without motion or button activation on site. Does require power and a wifi signal

Skype has a setting to automatically answer calls. Then you'd just need your speaker/mic wired into your computer at the wash and you could install the skype app on your phone and just initiate a call to your skype ID at the wash.

I just installed a RING doorbell at my site. It has a battery power option that is usb charged and the charge is said to last 6 months to a year. I put a sign in it that says: need help? Push button or call number...
