I accept cc currently through a phone line and want to set up remote viewing on my security cameras
I have dsl 512 speed on my system now which is insanely slow.
Is there a wireless Internet like Verizon capable of enough transfer speed to watch the security cameras or do I just need to upgrade my dsl speed?

What seems to work wireless and speed in general for you?

4G & in my case 3G works pretty good on our Droid X with the normal voice & data contract. One way we do it is with this software on my Droid X: http://www.xtralogic.com/rdpclient.shtml which can even have sound. My DVR has an IP camera but with some systems each camera has an IP address.

That reminds me ... it seems like there is a way nowadays to get what is on the Droid X a live feed can also be put on a big screen via a cable & software etc. Anybody doing that in real time?

Semi-retired,
the important thing is to see what's your upload speed as your camera system is sending the stream to your phone. In some instances upload speed is far slower than download speed.

Upload speed is usually about 20% of download, so if you have basic DSL the upload speed is pathetic.

MEP is correct, DSL is Asymmetrical. The distance to the DSLAM (the other end of your connection) and the quality of the copper will also determine your max datarate as the link is dynamic

Also, your DSL service contract is likely 'Available Bit Rate' which means that beyond the DSL segment, how much throughput you have is dependent on available bandwidth. Other customers with more expensive service could have guarantied bit rate that gives them a minimum amount of throughput.

I would start by having your carrier test your line (they can do this remotely) and see if any improvement can be made. Remember they are balancing throughput with reliability. If the service provider cannot give you the minimum required rate for what you want to do, then look at alternatives. Do you have CableTV or 4G at your location. When dealing with 4G, be mind full of the data caps if you plan to watch a lot of video.

How you watch it and with what device depends on your DVR and remote device (iPhone, android, PC, table, Media Player, etc). There are literally hundreds of ways of doing it.
