JE Adams Shamp n Vac fried Board

Friend has an 18 month old JE Adams Shampoo N Vac. Seems the circuit board fried and he has to replace for about $500.00

while it's bad enough that he has to spend this on an 18 month old unit he is concerned as to what caused it. Doesn't want the new one to fry.

Any ideas as to cause?

Voltage surge? I had a problem with a Continental washing machine frying circuit boards. I put a panel mounted surge protector in and haven't had a problem since.
