I have an ipad, but don't get alot of time to use it. The kids love it, They are more than amazing and the battery life is over double of the best laptop.
The apps are unlimited, and most are a$1 or 2.

I'd say figure out what your wife wants and make sure you give it to her, then your iPad will be accepted too.
