Kids Peeling Off Bollard Stripes

Red Baron

As fast as I can replace it, kids keep peeping the 3/4" reflective tape stripes on my plastic bollard covers. I've began hot gluing the end to make it harder to get loose but they're still doing it. Any ideas? Maybe implant razeblades in the stripe? Ok, not really but it's irritating.

If you can get some of the paint they use for road stripes, that would be more durable than adhesive and it still has the reflective properties.

I know this is a little late but I wanted to contribute to this thread. Bollard covers are made with anti-static additives for the purpose of not having things stick to them. Even if you did find something that kids could not peel off, they would end up peeling off anyways. Mold in graphics are available for bollard covers but do cost more in set up charges. There could possibly be a way to mold in a reflective image into the plastic but this would need to be explored.

I've begun doing two things that seem to help:

1. Hot glue the endlap on the reflective tape, making it harder to get a thumbnail under.
2. Sending a photo to the parents of the kids I catch peeling.

How often are you finding this issue takes place? Good idea on the snapshot :) Maybe we can devise a system with integrated security (web-cam inside the cover) Sneaky!

How about covering with a much wider stripe of clear tape? Just a thought....

These are bored, unsupervised kids - I imagine the clear tape would just give them one more layer to entertain themselves by peeling off.

Thought though crossed my mind of a tack hotglued to the back where the endlap is...

Some good solutions but the problem I get in to is I don't want to spend 30 minutes to solve a 2 minute problem. Postguard.com sends me the reflective tape for free, already cut to proper length. I keep about 20 of them in the ER and when I see one missin, 2 minutes later it's not missing anymore.

It's just one of those little annoyances.

Two thoughts. I like the idea of putting something tacky on the end of the tape where they start to peal it off. Ever get pine sap on your hands? Tough to get off.

Another idea is a little more technical and costly, but is something I've thought of rigging up for my dumpster. Set a little motion sensor by the area which will only trigger on someone right on the bollard, and have a type of camera flash or strobe light turn on. This might make them think a picture is being taken and they'll stop. Of course, this may only be a preventative measure for a little while until they figure out it's fake.

You could put a camera there, but do you know who the parents are of the kid(s)? Even if you do, do you think those parents really even care?

The parents don't care. I find minor damage done by kids all the time, and see kids left unattended playing with the wands and brushes, scratching letters into decals or onto the tile walls with a nail, cramming leaves into coin acceptors, and as long as their kids aren't being molested they couldn't care less.
