Laundry Mats 101

How does one best learn the laundry mat business?

Is it, for example a declining, stagnant or growing industry?

Who are the customers?

What is the overall business strategy of successful 'mats?

What income population is needed to sustain and grow the laundry business?

How much do laundrymats typically spend on payroll as a % of gross?

I know how to troubleshoot a changer (or call Randy Nix phone #:D) and I know how to do laundry (somewhat). I know how to service the customer and develop maintenance, cleaning and repairs protocols.

What are the stumbling blocks that are likely that I am missing?

The big turn-off to me would be that you would be dealing with the lower rungs of the social ladder the bulk of the time. That may not bother some, but the bottom feeders around the car wash seem to be the worst customers...just my $.02

The big Laundromat forum is www.coinwash.com

Sounds like you would estimate that 90+% of laundry customers are lower income folks. That's the type of statistic I would like to realistically know.

I wasn't sure who most of the customers are.

The laundry is part of a strip mall that is for sale and the current strip mall owenership operates the laundry.

btw; tried signing in on your coinwash link and gave up after 3 tries at entering the ridiculous code wrong. frustrating!

I'm not sure why you can't see coinwash. I clicked on it and went right to it. They have a "Premium" section that you have to pay for, but also a free section as well, that anyone can view. I'm at my mother's house right now, so I would be seen as a guest, but had no issues. What is the code you are talking about? I encountered nothing like that.
