low pressure pumping station setup question

For instance...in a hydrominder/flojet pumping station setup for pre soak in the bays, is a check valve needed between the flojet output and the solenoid manifold input?
 
No, and if you're concerned a failed high-pressure check valve might cause damage to the pump, use a pop-off valve instead.

I use a Speedaire regulator on the air for the low-pressure system, and tire cleaner/presoak/air all share one check valve at the boom. If the high-pressure valve fails it just bleeds off at the regulator and causes no damage.
 
OR, you could put the LP functions (PS, TC, TF) all on a foam gun. No check valves needed in the whole system.

What do you use for a pop off valve. Could I tee it in with the pressure gauge on the manifold?

I tee it on the bottom of the stack and slip a loop of 1/2" clear hose over it so if it needs to vent it's directed at the floor. It can tee in anywhere as long as it's between the pump and whatever pressure you're protecting the pump from.
 
By the time the pressure spike hits the pop off valve at the bottom of the stack hasn't it blown out a solenoid valve by coming thru it the wrong way? In the past I have spliced in a cheap piece of poly tubing into each line just coming out of the solenoid. With a pressure spike that piece would blow out before reaching the solenoid.
 
It won't hurt the solenoid for pressure to come through it the wrong way.

If I were going to splice a cheap piece of tubing as a safety, I'd put it at the boom rather than have it burst inside and get stuff wet.

I've never had an issue with the setup I described above with the air regulator acting as a bleed-off. I only use the pop-offs because sometimes the lines freeze and push pressure back and cause a lock between the pump and the solenoids.
